Reality Training Day 2017

Reality Training Day 2017 – Saturday 30th September
The Art Of Connecting

27 people came together to spend a day being encouraged and resourced in their work with young people.  The theme of “Connecting With Young People” is the passion of all those involved in youth work and we had 3 excellent workshops, exploring how we can connect with those young people we come into contact with. Our thanks goes to Simon Stokes, Matt Brown and Ben Worth for leading these workshops. We spent the afternoon connecting with God on a personal level, facilitated by Phil Hulks. A brilliant day together, thanks to all those who came to join us.

ncounter summer 2017

What a awesome week of fun, mission, prayer and worship. 41 young people and their leaders worked hard to #beablessing to the communities they were serving. Gardens were cleared, litter picked, cars washed, friends made, the Reality bus went Hawaiian and the week ended with two Free Family Fun Days with over 500 people enjoying the sunshine!

We would like to thank all those who supported us during the week, either by hosting us, providing resources, working alongside us, feeding us and in prayer.  A particular thank you goes to the Humberstone & Hamilton Ward, Asda Hinckley (Asda Foundation), The Blakemore Foundation, Kirby Muxloe Free Church, Laburnum Road Community Church and Hinckley Methodist Church.

ncounter summer took place from 16th – 21st July 2017, across Leicestershire. For the Full Report, click here (pdf) but otherwise, enjoy some photos below:

Spreading over two years (2017 & 2018), a team of 5 riders and 2 support drives aim to ‘Cycle The Cross’. This will entail a Coast to Coast bike ride in 2017, followed by the infamous John o’ Groats to Lands End bike ride in 2018.

Our intention is to raise £6000 for the Reality Bus (see below). To help to raise money for this amazing cause, a massive ‘Thank You’ needs to go out to the following companies all of whom have sponsored our cycling jerseys which is of massive support to us!

This follows on from our adventures in 2015, where the same 5 riders and a driver set up a large endurance cycling event, deciding to cycle the 165 miles from Countesthorpe to Canterbury in one sitting in the hope of raising funds to transform our double decker bus into a mobile youth centre to allow young people the chance to socialise in a warm and safe environment with the latest games consoles, DJ decks and all sorts of gadgets. .

One drizzly day in May 2015, we set off from Canterbury with the target of returning to Leicestershire the same day. Unfortunately, 40 miles in to the ride, Rob suffered a horrendous crash. He lost control of his bike and at approximately 20mph went flying over the handlebars and landed directly on to his left shoulder in a pile of dirt by the side of the road. The paramedics arrived and gave a blissful dose of gas and air, but unfortunately Rob still had to go to Basildon Hospital for further treatment. It was there he  discovered a snapped collar bone.

The rest of the team kept on going and didn’t once think of giving up. After being discharged from the hospital, one of the charity team members collected Rob in their car and caught up with the team so he was able to join the team in the support bus. Even with his arm in a sling,  and being quite high on pain killers, he joined the team in riding for the final half a mile to the finish line where we were greeted by all of our families, friends and we had a beautiful party to celebrate the achievement. That day, we raised just over £6000 for the charity which was put to good use on the double decker bus.

To this day, the bus is on the road 5 nights a week allowing young people the chance of spending time somewhere in a safe environment and is even hired out by schools and local councils during the day time for other events and projects.

To follow on this success, we completed the ride once again in 2016 – and I am pleased to say this time Rob actually paid attention to his riding and didn’t fall off once! We raised a further £4000 on this ride.

‘Reality Bus’ races at the Hinckley Soap Box

Well it wasn’t actually THE Reality bus but instead a model we have made especially to race on the day. It made 3 very successful runs and even completed the jump on the last run. It was great to be part of such a fun day, look out for both versions of the Reality Bus being out and about.

To find out where the full sized Bus will be over the next few weeks, and for new sessions starting in September 2017 look us up on social media

Reality Prayer Day 2017

The Power Of Prayer

Thank you to all those who supported us at our annual prayer day on Monday 23rd January. The day was a huge blessing to the whole team and we know God will work mightily from it.

As a Christian organisation, we are constantly surrounding our work in prayer and are blessed to have many people praying for us outside the organisation too.

Each January, we come together for a whole day of prayer and all our supporters are invited.  We have times of individual and corporate prayer, for each area of our work: Youth Work (in schools, community & churches), Abundant Life courses, Events and the Administration.  We also take time to pray for each member of the team.
