Youth Work Update September 2017

Hi I’m Abi, the youthworker for Kirby Muxloe Free Church and St Barts.

Now we’re back. The summer is over *sob* but we’ve got lots to tell you about.

Holiday club was a lovely time spent with lots of children from the village. We also welcomed just under 20 young people who throughout the three days gave up their time in order to support the adult leaders with caring for the children. It was great to have them with us, we really appreciated their help. We spent the week singing, dancing, playing games and doing arts and crafts. It was lots of fun.

We also took almost all of the young people to Soul Survivor for a week in August. For those of you that arent aware of what Soul Survivor is, imagine 10,000 people camping in a huge field, going to a giant church service twice a day, including lots of food, fun, laughter and so many more activities. We went to the new venue at Peterborough and had an incredible time (even whilst being sleep deprived).  There’s nothing like living (well camping) together for a week to really bond a group and it was beautiful to watch relationships blossom, and we had great fun at the discos, sports venues, cafes and maybe even a little water fight.

Now schools have started back our regular groups resume….

Youth Work Update March 2017

Hi I’m Abi, the youthworker for Kirby Muxloe Free Church and St Barts.

Lots of things to tell you all about his month, I have finished the Diocesan Leadership Programme. A 6 month process ran by the diocese of leicester helping me to look at ways to affectively lead the teams I run. This has been a really important time of learning and hopefully this will allow our  teams work more effectively.

This month also saw us host our Annual ‘Reality Fundraiser’. Some of the team took part in a back-to-front triathlon to raise money for the work we do here at Reality. They had to complete 5k run, 20k cycle and 750m swim, I was shocked by how fast they all were. Final total raised will be released soon. Thanks to all those who have donated, if you still want to contribute let me know.

Now for the main event, the ‘YOUTH SERVICE’. Our lovely group of young people led services at both The Free Church & St Barts over the past few weeks and, if I do say so myself, WERE ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. I feel very much like a proud parent, watching them lead worship, pray for us as churches and talk to the congregations about how God provides for us abundantley. The message was clear about how we should be so thankful to God for all he does for us, and how we should reach out to others more.

Finally we hosted our Joint Youth Club BBQ, on the 18th May. It again was a great success. We saw so many young people come and spend time with us, many which we hadn’t met before, eating bugers & hotdogs, and lots and lots of yummy donated cake. A massive Thank you to all of you who helped it to run so well, we really appreciate it. We are always in need of more help though for our regular sessions, if you can help please go to https://goo.gl/r9leHs

Thanks for your Prayers and words of encouragment, Please continue to pray for the work we do in our area.

Blessings, Abi Fincham  – youth worker.

March 2017

Hi I’m Abi, the youthworker for Kirby Muxloe Free Church and St Barts.

This month has been a busy one. Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day (more like pancake week) has been a big part of whats been going on over the last few weeks. We had pancakes at our Assembly in the village primary school the Thursday before then on the Sunday Night House group for 20, Pancakes at Lunchtime Club in Bosworth Academy for 60, I then went to see the laides and gents at St Barts Tea Shop and we must have served pancakes for at least 30, if not more. And then we had even more at youth club on the Thursday. Im well and truly pancaked out.

This was a great time for me to explain to people from all walks of life about what Pancake day is about, and how it marks the start of the christian period called Lent. This year we have challenged the young people to spend every day for the 40 day period running up to easter doing something kind everyday rather than trying to give up something like chocolate or their xbox, in the hope that young people get into a routine of going out of their way to do at least one random act of kindness every day. We present these every morning to them via social media and each day the task is different, from make a cup of tea for an adult or write somone a card etc. We use emojis (little pictures that represent feelings/activities/ icons etc) which are used to communicate all over social media.

Throughtout March we are spending time raising money for charity at youth club. We are supporting comic relief/red nose day and the young people are doing different activities each week to raise cash to support the cause.  We are always in need of more help though, if you can help please go to https://goo.gl/r9leHs

Thanks for your Prayers and words of encouragment, Please continue to pray for the work we do in our area.

Blessings, Abi Fincham 🙂 – youth worker.
