Fun Day

COUNTESTHORPE COMMUNITY FUN DAY 2011

Sunshine on a Rainy Day

Saturday 7th May 2011 started with a lot of rain but despite the weather, we were thankful that our volunteers and stall holders all arrived to kick start the 4th Countesthorpe Community Fun Day.  The Fun Day officially opened at 11am with a performance by the utterly brilliant Greenfield School Djembe Drummers.  As the noise echoed around the Paddock, the rain started to dwindle and people began to enjoy a FREE day out.

By midday the sun shone around the field: from the bouncy castle to the Craft tent, run by St. Andrew’s Craft group; from the Football Cage to the Fairtrade Cafe, with cakes supplied by members of the Methodist & St. Andrew’s Church; from the Face Painting to the Balloon Race, run by Countesthorpe Baptist Church; and from the Countesthorpe Skate Park stand to the Beauty Tent.

500 free sausage cobs were cooked and given out, sweets were awarded to those who successfully completed the games or managed to ring the bell at the top of the High Striker, and 300 drinks were consumed in the cafe.  At any time, there must have been around 500 people on the Paddock.

Entertainment was provided throughout the day with Leysland High School provided an amazing show packed full of talented young musicians and singers.  Our thanks also go to ‘Aching Arms’ Puppets, ‘Tickled Skink’ children’s entertainer and ‘Talking Rhythms’ Drums.

We are so grateful to all those who made the day a success: Blaby Community Safety Partnership, the Stuart Cosby Memorial Trust, Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service, St. John’s Ambulance, Market Harborough District Scouts, the Hire Station, KJS Technical, our sponsors, all the volunteers on the stalls (many of whom came from the local churches), those who prayed for the event and most of all to God for making it a wonderful day.

We organise the event to bless the community as an expression of our Christian faith and our prayer is that people experienced a ray of hope, just like the sun shone through on a rainy day.
